What is WorldSkills Competition ?

Every two years in a different country, several hundred youngsters, apprentices, Compagnons, students in vocational training schools, young employees coming from all continents compete during the WorldSkills Competition.

The youngsters, selected as the best in their respective countries, will compete for four days in over 40 skills representing different sectors of the world economy : building and construction technology, manufacturing technology, transport and logistics, social and personal services, agricultural sector, food sector, information and communication technology...

There is only one condition for participation : the competitor has to be less than 23 years of age.

High school students, Compagnons, young employees, all have the sole ambition of making it to the top and winning the gold medal in their field. All have a chance.

The WorldSkills Competition does not judge according to diplomas or the type of training chosen, it judges on what has been done and produced at the end of the competition, which takes place in conditions that are very close to the reality of today’s working world : respect of specifications, costs, materials and the environment. This competition is organised by WorldSkills International and aims at “promoting, through the cooperative actions of Members, a worldwide awareness of the essential contribution that skills and high standards of competence make to the achievement of economic success and individual fulfilment”, as written in the WorldSkills mission statement, currently shared by 51 countries.

The Board of Directors of WorldSkills International, with Tjerk Dusseldorp (Australia) as President, is composed of :

- five vice-presidents ; Liam Corcoran (Ireland), Marie-Thérèse Geffroy (France), Roberto Spada (Brazil), Yoo Bae Kim (Korea) and Veijo Hintsanen (Finland),

- a secretariat, managed by David Hoey, Chief Executive Officer (Australia),

- a treasurer ; Laurent Thibault (Canada).
